Machine Operator Training

Can Making 101

The first step in the journey of working in a can plant must start with Can Making 101. During this ½ day course, the new employee will gain the basic understanding of how a can is made. During this time, a trainer will perform guided walks on the production floor to ensure the classroom knowledge is transferred to the real world of can making.

Machine Orientation

Machine Orientation is an important step in becoming a Machine Operator. During this ½ day course, the employee will spend time, both in the classroom and the production floor, learning about the core responsibilities of the machine operator job. A trainer will work with the employee to help understand why each of the responsibilities are important to the machine they will be operating.

Hands-on Training

Hands-On Training is a combination of classroom work and on-the-job training. For each training module, the employee will first complete an eLearning course to build foundational knowledge on each topic. Afterwards they will move to the production floor where a trainer will work with the employee to perform on-the-job training and eventually a skills checkout.

Transition Period

The transition period is one of the most important of the entire training process. After the employee has completed the hands on training, they will work on the production floor, under supervision of a line-lead. The line-lead is expected to mentor the employee and help them become a confident and knowledgeable machine operator.

Train-the-Trainer

This remote course provides 24 hours of instruction for up to 6 people. During this time, they will learn instructional techniques to engage the learners, increase retention, and check for understanding. The goal of this course is to ensure that the training staff at the facility is capable of effectively teaching can making 101 and has the tools to teach other content as well.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent a universal call to action, advocating for prosperity alongside planetary preservation. These goals tackle a spectrum of global challenges, encompassing poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. They also provide a blueprint for fostering economic growth sustainably. Currently, we have pinpointed six SDGs that CanSCHOOL supports:
